Dr Mark Gately is a Specialist General surgeon, trained in the Newcastle and Hunter – New England area, rotating through the John Hunter, Maitland, Tamworth and Port Macquarie hospitals. After obtaining his Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Fellowship, he travelled to London, UK, for further training and experience as an international fellow and then Consultant surgeon in Laparoscopic Bariatric & Benign Upper Gastrointestinal surgery at Chelsea & Westminster NHS Hospital Trust, one of the UK’s centres of excellence for BariSurg.
During Dr G’s time in London he gained extensive experience in multiple ?methods? of bariatric care including gastric balloons / lap banding / sleeve / bypass and revisional surgery.
Having recently moved back to Newcastle, Dr Gately is focusing on his Bariatric surgical practice in the Newcastle and Maitland areas.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of OSSANZ and ASMBS.
Mark received a Medical Science degree from UNSW before completing his Bachelor of Medicine at Sydney University.
Dr Gately is committed to teaching and has been employed by the University of Newcastle as a surgical tutor. Whilst working in the UK he as an assessor for the Imperial College School of Medicine and was actively involved in training surgical residents and registrars.
Dr Gately operates at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital, Lingard Private Hospital and Maitland Private and Public Hospitals.
Dr Gately consults in rooms in both Charlestown at NOS and MPH consultation suites.
