Dr. Ulvi Budak is an advanced laparoscopic surgeon with specialist training in Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) and Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery. He did his postgraduate general surgical training in South Western Sydney surgical rotations (1996-2000) including Liverpool, St Vincent’s and Wollongong Hospitals, and obtained his fellowship in 2000.
His post fellowship training in upper GI surgery and trauma surgery (2001-2003) was in Westmead and Canberra Hospitals. He had further Bariatric Surgery training at the Alfred, Melbourne (Prof Paul O’Brien), Westmead Private Hospital, Sydney (Roy Brancatisano), Mercy Bariatrics , Perth (Leon Cohen), St George Private Hospital, Sydney (John Jorgenson and Michael Talbot) and Norwest and Sunnybank Private Hospitals, Brisbane. He has established and is the director of “The Illawarra Institute of Obesity Surgery” since 2004 and has been working in Wollongong and Shellharbour as a General/Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon since 2003.
His main interests are weight loss surgery, benign and malignant oesophago-gastric surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery; including inguinal and incisional hernia surgery, gall bladder and anti-reflux surgery. He also does endoscopies and colonoscopies.
He has performed over 5000 laparoscopic procedures and more than 1000 weight loss surgeries including revisional weight loss procedures. He works only in the Illawarra and operates at The Wollongong & Shellharbour Public Hospitals, Figtree and Wollongong Private Hospitals.
